This policy explains what information Constella collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Constella is a product of Silverberry Group, Inc. ("Silverberry", "we", "us"). There is no separate Constella company: Silverberry Group, Inc. is responsible for your information.
It applies to askconstella.com, the Constella web app, the Constella iOS app and its Share Extension, the Constella browser extension, and the connections you set up from them (together, the "Service").
Summary
- We collect your account details and the content you choose to put into Constella, so we can store it, search it and answer questions about it.
- We do not sell your personal information, show you ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- We send your content to AI providers only to produce the answers and features you ask for. We do not use your content to train AI models, and our providers may not use it to train theirs.
- You can delete individual items at any time, and delete your whole account from the iOS app or by emailing us.
- Content you add to an organization's projects belongs to that organization and stays with it, even if you leave or delete your account.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up we collect your email address, your name (if your sign-in provider shares it) and a user ID. You can sign in with Google, Sign in with Apple, or an email address and password. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple's private relay address instead.
Content you provide
Constella exists to hold and reason over what you give it. This includes:
- Captures: screenshots and pages you save, with the page's address (URL), title and, where you choose, its text; and links you send from the iOS Share Extension, which we may fetch to read and summarize the page.
- Notes and annotations you write or draw.
- Files and photos you upload, such as PDFs, documents and images.
- Voice notes and dictation: audio you record, and the transcript we create from it.
- Chats: the questions you ask, the answers, and attachments you add.
- Projects, agents and organizations: names, goals, Skills (agent instructions) and the people you invite by email.
The browser extension only captures a page when you use it. It does not record your browsing history in the background.
Data from apps you connect
If you connect another service, we access it only with your permission and only for the feature you turned on:
- Google Drive: files you select or import.
- Slack: the ability to share answers to channels you choose.
- Canva: the ability to turn answers into designs in your Canva account.
- HubSpot: CRM records such as contacts, companies and deals, and (if you allow it) email engagement events.
- Plot: website content you choose to sync.
You can disconnect any of these at any time in Settings. When you disconnect, we delete the records we synced from that service.
Payment information
If you buy Constella Pro, our payment processor, Stripe, collects your card and billing details. We receive your plan, billing status and a Stripe customer reference. We never see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
Like most online services, our servers record technical information when you use Constella: IP address, browser or device type, operating system, app version, timestamps, the features you use and error logs. We use it to run, secure and fix the Service. We do not use advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA), we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in our apps, and we do not collect your precise location or your contacts.
Information you send us
If you email us or ask for support, we keep that correspondence so we can help you.
2. How we use information
- To provide the Service: store your content, index it so it can be searched, answer your questions with sources, create summaries, notes, transcripts, slides and other outputs you ask for, and keep your work in sync across your devices.
- To run shared work: show content you add to a project or organization to the people who have access to it.
- To bill you for paid plans and enforce plan limits.
- To keep the Service safe: authenticate you, prevent abuse and fraud, and investigate security issues.
- To support you and send service messages, such as security notices and changes to these terms. We send marketing email only where the law allows, and you can opt out at any time.
- To improve the Service: using technical and usage information, and aggregated or de-identified data. We do not train AI models on your content.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
Where the law requires a legal basis (for example in the EEA and UK), we rely on: performing our contract with you; our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the Service; your consent, where we ask for it (such as connecting another app); and compliance with law.
3. AI processing
Constella uses large language models and related AI services to do what you ask: answer questions, search your memory, summarize pages and files, transcribe audio, read images and generate drafts. To do this, the relevant parts of your content (your question, and the captures, files, notes or records needed to answer it) are sent to the AI provider that runs that feature. Today these providers are OpenAI, Anthropic and Google (Gemini).
- We do not use your content to train AI models.
- Our providers process your content on our behalf under their business API terms, which do not allow them to use it to train their models. We switch off optional storage of requests where a provider offers that setting. Providers keep any remaining data only for a limited period under their terms (for example, to monitor for abuse), or not at all where a zero data retention arrangement applies.
- Some features look things up on the public web (for example, researching a link you saved). When they do, the search query is sent to the search service; your private content is not published.
- AI output can be wrong. Always check important answers against the sources Constella cites.
On iOS, dictation uses Apple's speech recognition, which may send audio to Apple to transcribe it, under Apple's privacy policy.
4. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only as follows.
Service providers
These companies process data on our behalf, under contract, only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Google Cloud and Firebase | Hosting, sign-in, database and file storage |
| OpenAI | Chat answers, search indexing (embeddings), transcription, image reading and summaries |
| Anthropic | Chat answers and slide generation, when those models are used |
| Google (Gemini) | Researching and summarizing web links |
| Qdrant | The search index of your content |
| Stripe | Payments and billing for Constella Pro |
Sign-in providers
Google and Apple authenticate you when you choose to sign in with them, under their own privacy policies.
Apps you connect
When you connect Slack, Canva, HubSpot, Google Drive or Plot and use a feature that sends content there (for example, posting an answer to a Slack channel), we send that content to the service you chose.
People you share with
Content you add to a project or organization is visible to its members, according to the roles the owner sets. If you create a share link for a capture, anyone with the link can view it until you turn sharing off. If your organization's administrator manages your workspace, they can see and manage the organization's content.
Organizations
When you accept an invitation to join an organization, content you add to that organization's projects belongs to the organization, whether you created the project or contributed to it. This includes the captures, files, notes, voice notes and other material you add there. The organization's owner and administrators control that content, including who can see it and whether it is kept or deleted, and it stays with the organization if you leave or delete your account. For that content, we act on the organization's instructions. Content you keep outside the organization's projects stays yours.
Legal and safety
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is required by law or legal process, or needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or Silverberry.
Business transfers
If Silverberry is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal. We will tell you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Google user data
Constella's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google Drive data only to provide the import and search features you turn on. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, we do not let people read it except with your permission, for security, or as required by law, and we do not use it to train generalized AI models.
6. Retention and deletion
- We keep your content for as long as your account is active, so it can be your memory.
- You can delete a capture, file, note, chat, project or organization you own at any time. When you do, we remove it from our database, file storage and search index.
- Deleting your account. In the iOS app, go to More › Account › Delete account. You can also email info@askconstella.com from the address on your account. Deleting your account permanently deletes your profile and sign-in and your personal content: the captures, files, notes, voice notes and chats that are not in an organization's project, your personal projects, your share links and your search index. We revoke Constella's access to apps you connected and delete the data synced from them, and we cancel any active Constella Pro subscription. Your memberships in other people's projects and organizations, and pending invitations to your email, are removed. Content other people added to your personal projects stays with them. This cannot be undone.
- Organization content stays. Deleting your account does not delete content you added to an organization's projects. It stays with the organization, shown as added by a former member, and projects you created in an organization are transferred to the organization's owner.
- Organization owners. If you own an organization that has other members, make another member the owner before you delete your account. If you are its only member, the organization and its content are deleted with your account.
- Residual copies in backups and system logs are removed on their normal schedule, generally within 30 days. Content already sent to an AI provider to answer an earlier request is handled under that provider's retention terms (see section 3). Stripe keeps its own billing and transaction records, and we keep ours as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- If you are inactive for a long time, we may contact you before closing your account.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. This includes rights under the EU and UK GDPR, Canada's PIPEDA, and US state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act.
- You can view, edit and delete most of your information yourself in the app.
- For anything else, email info@askconstella.com. We will verify your request (usually by confirming it from your account email) and respond within the time the law requires.
- You may use an authorized agent where the law allows; we may ask for proof that they act for you.
- We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California residents: in the last 12 months we collected the categories described in section 1: identifiers (name, email, user ID, IP address), customer records, commercial information (plan and billing status), internet activity within the Service, audio and visual information you upload, and other content you provide. We collect them for the purposes in section 2 and disclose them only to the recipients in section 4. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
8. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest, access controls that keep your content private to your account and the projects you share, and restricted administrative access. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
9. Where data is processed
Silverberry Group, Inc. is based in Canada. Constella's servers are in the United States, and our providers may process data in other countries. Wherever your data is processed, we protect it as this policy describes, and we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers where the law requires them.
10. Children
Constella is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old (or older, if your country requires a higher age to consent to data processing) to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we will tell you by email or in the Service before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
